One of the richest ores in the 12 Step program is their committment to everybody's sterling human dignity. Yes, the leading edge to 12 Steps is the pledge that the participants are addicts. But they never let this black hole diminish the "black box" of a participant's inherent dignity. What an encouragement to those in recovery to be affirmed by their fellow "recoverers" that they are most worthy of the full life that sobriety brings. They realize that in spite of their cunning, powerful and baffling disease, their true identity of dignity is sealed in their "black boxes."
