Pearls are fascinating studies. Glenn Miller composed still famous Big Band song, "String of Pearls." Dutch painter Johnannes Vermeer uses a pearl as focal point in his famous painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring." This painting/story was made into a great period movie in 2003. Steinbeck wrote a small novel called "The Pearl." The President of Venezuela gave Jackie Kennedy the gift of a Margarita Pearl necklace when she and her husband JFK visited. Margarita is an island north of Venezuela that is famous for its hypnotic shade of yellow pearl. It takes about 3-5 years for a little raw oyster to produce a pearl and for every ton of oysters dredged up, you will be lucky to find more than 2 pearls. A natural black pearl will run about $7,000 where as an 18 inch strand of natural white pearls may cost several thousand. God truly has a sense of style, elegance and grandeur for He has chosen to make the 12 gates surrounding the New Jerusalem (see Revelation 21:21) with not just thousands of pearls fused together, but rather one solid pearl. And I can assure you, they won't be cultured or even natural…more like super-natural!
